When a normal bike takes too much out of you, you ride less. The FOCUS AVENTURA² 6.8 hands the work to a Bosch Performance Line CX motor and an 800 Wh battery, in every frame size, for the commute, the hill on your regular loop and a weekend on a rail trail.

FOCUS AVENTURA² 6.8: the CX motor and your hills

Give the work to the motor and keep the rides. The Bosch Performance Line CX is a mid-drive motor in the bottom-bracket area. FOCUS specifies 85 Nm, rising to 120 Nm after the Bosch update in the Flow app, and the Flow app is where you tune how the assist feels. The commute, the shops and the ride home take less out of you, so you ride more often and further.

Battery, range and what is fitted

The battery is a Bosch PowerTube of 800 Wh, built into the down tube, in every frame size including S. It comes out for charging, or you charge it on the bike. 800 Wh is the battery offered in Australia for this model, a large one for longer and loaded days.

How far it goes depends on the assist level you ride in, the hills, your load and the weather. For longer days the step-over Diamond frame can take more battery: a Bosch PowerMore 250 range extender adds 250 Wh, and sizes M, L and XL take Bosch DualBattery, up to 1600 Wh in total. Bring your usual route to a test ride and we'll talk it through.

Lights, mudguards, rack and kickstand come fitted by FOCUS, so the bike is ready to take over the short car trips to work, the shops and the station from the first day:

• Litemove RLX-100H front light, 100 lux, and a rear light, with the headlight up on the bars
• Curana 75 mm alloy mudguards, for more coverage and clearance
• Massload MIK HD rear rack, 27 kg maximum load, with a flat top and a pannier rail below it, for panniers, a basket or a trunk bag
• Ursus Anti-Noise kickstand
• Bell
• Built-in mount for an AirTag or Chipolo

FOCUS rates the bike for 150 kg in total: rider, gear and the bike itself. It is also approved for two-track trailers.

Frames, sizes and rail trails

Two frames, one bike. The Wave step-through lets you get on and off without swinging a leg over the frame, with a foot down at the lights and a more upright position. The Diamond step-over is the frame that takes the range extender. A Post Moderne suspension dropper post lowers the saddle when you stop, with 75 mm of drop on size S and 100 mm on M to XL, and an adjustable 60 mm stem gives you room to set your position.

Sizes run S, M, L and XL, and every size takes the 800 Wh battery. 29-inch wheels can look big on a small frame; sit on the S before you judge it. If you are getting back on a bike together after years away, you can each choose your frame shape and size and still share the same battery, and we can test ride you both.

Rail trails and gravel roads sit inside FOCUS's trekking and gravel class: leisure riding with moderate effort, drops under 15 cm, trails with moderate gradients. The 100 mm SR Suntour air fork, set to your weight with a shock pump, the Schwalbe Jonny Watts 29 x 2.35 inch tyres with puncture resistance for extra comfort and grip, and the dropper for a creek crossing are what make a whole rail-trail day comfortable.

Who it suits and who services it

Best for: the commute and short trips that replace the car, the regular loop with a hill in it, rail trails and gravel roads, and riders who want to keep riding at the pace they choose. Not best for: technical mountain-bike trails, where an e-mountain bike suits better, or riders who want the lightest bike possible, since this one weighs 28.1 kg.

Is FOCUS a good bike brand?

FOCUS is a German brand that develops its bikes in Stuttgart, founded on Mike Kluge's three cyclocross world titles. The AVENTURA² 6.8 runs Bosch's motor, battery and display, and we service it here.

How heavy is it, and how do I charge it?

It weighs 28.1 kg (800 Wh, size M, standard spec, without pedals). You charge the battery on the bike, or take it out of the down tube and charge it indoors.

Will my child seat fit?

FOCUS lists the bike for child seats on its 27 kg rack. Fit varies from seat to seat, so bring yours, or its model, and we'll check it with you.

Is it legal to ride in Victoria?

FOCUS states the motor assists up to 25 km/h. Road rules for e-bikes are set by each state, so check the current Victorian rules, and ask us at the showroom.

Is it worth it?

The drive system and the kit are already on it: Bosch Performance Line CX, 800 Wh battery, lights, mudguards, rack and kickstand, with sizing and servicing in Ivanhoe.

What is the difference between the 6.8 and the other AVENTURA² models?
