The Focus Aventura² 6.7 is an electric bike for the hill on a ride you do every week, the one that on hard days sends you to the car. Its quiet Bosch Performance Line motor gives you 75 Nm of torque on the climb, helping only while you pedal, up to 25 km/h.

Choose the step-through and there's no bar to swing a leg over, even with the rack loaded. It comes ready for the shops on Tuesday and a rail trail on Saturday.

Focus Aventura² 6.7: climbs, groups, getting on

Riders who own both of Bosch's mid motors describe this Performance Line unit as the quieter of the two. On your regular ride that means the climb is part of the ride again: no planning the route around it, no switching to the car on the days your legs say no. The hill stops deciding the trip.

Ride with them again, not after them

If the rides with your partner or your group stopped because you were the one they waited for at the top, the assist on the climbs puts you back beside them, and you arrive together.

Getting on stops being the thing you think about

On the Wave step-through you put a foot down at the lights and step off at the shops. The suspension dropper seatpost drops 75 or 100 mm so you can get on low, then rises again once you're rolling. Walk assist holds the bike on a slope and moves it along at up to 6 km/h while you walk it up a ramp. On the Wave, the battery release sits on top of the down tube, so you never bend under the bike to take it out. Prefer a classic frame? The Diamond step-over comes in the same four sizes, S to XL.

Luggage, weight limit and towing

Pack for four days on a rail trail. The Massload MIK HD rear rack is rated to 27 kg and comes with a strap. The bike is rated to a 150 kg permissible system weight, which counts you, your gear and the bike together. Do the sum before you pack: the bike weighs 27.1 kg in size M without pedals, which leaves about 122 kg for you and everything you carry. A 105 kg rider with 15 kg of luggage, the load one Australian rider planned a multi-day trip around, comes to 120 kg. Focus also approve it to tow a two-track trailer using Thule's thru-axle. Load it and go.

Range, charging and gravel

How far it goes depends on how you ride it. The Bosch PowerTube holds 600 Wh, and the distance you get from it is set by the assist mode, the hills, the total weight on board, the temperature and your riding. Australian rail-trail days typically run 45 to 65 km town to town, and we'll help you pick the assist mode that suits your ride. The battery is removable and lockable and weighs about 3 kg. It charges through a port on the frame, so at a lunch stop you plug the bike in where it stands, or you carry the battery inside with its own Bosch charger. On busy trails, operators publish charging stops in the towns along the way. Nothing to plan around but a power point.

The gravel stretch rides as calmly as the bike path

An SR Suntour XCM 34 coil fork with 100 mm of travel and Schwalbe Johnny Watts 29 x 2.35 tyres carry you over the unsealed sections of rail trails and country roads. Focus class it for sealed roads, bike paths, gravel roads and trails with moderate gradients (EN 17406 Condition 2), so you follow the trail where it goes.

What comes fitted and who it suits

Nothing is left to buy before it starts doing the second car's short trips. Full alloy mudguards, an Ursus anti-noise kickstand, an integrated chain guide, the rack and StVZO-approved lights front and rear all come on the bike, so the shopping, the station run and the wet ride home after dark are covered from day one.

A few details make a long day simpler:

• A USB-C port keeps your phone charged for navigation.
• A hidden space under the motor cover takes a tracker, for a bike that sleeps away from home on tour.
• The adjustable stem, riser bar and Ergon grips let us set bar height and reach to you when we size you.

Before you commit, check how it will travel. With the battery in, it's a full-size bike to lift. Take the battery out before it goes on a car rack, and on the step-through a frame bar adapter helps it sit on the rack.

Service, test rides and reviews

The shop that sells it services it. Your first service, at 300 km, is in our Ivanhoe workshop, and faults on the Bosch system are read with Bosch's own dealer tools. You're not on your own once it's home.

You don't need the words

Questions riders ask before they book a test ride:

Is a 250W e-bike enough for hills?

On a climb, look at torque rather than watts. 250 W is the motor's continuous rating; the 75 Nm is what carries you up. Ride it on the hills near the showroom and feel it for yourself.

Is a step-through frame weaker with panniers on?

Focus rate the Wave step-through and the Diamond step-over to the same 150 kg permissible system weight, rider, gear and bike counted together.

Can I charge an e-bike battery at home?

Yes. Transport Victoria asks riders to use the charger supplied with the device, to charge on a hard surface rather than a soft or flammable one, not to leave a battery charging unattended, and to unplug it once it's full.

Are electric bikes legal to ride in Victoria?

Focus build the Aventura² 6.7 as a pedal-assist bike: the motor is rated at 250 W, helps only while you pedal and stops helping at 25 km/h, and walk assist runs to 6 km/h. Transport Victoria publishes its e-bike rules, and every state sets its own, so check the rules where you'll ride.

Can I add a second battery to the Aventura² 6.7?

On the Diamond step-over frame, yes: Bosch's PowerMore 250 range extender adds 250 Wh, and sizes M, L and XL take Bosch DualBattery. The Wave step-through runs on its single 600 Wh battery.

What if my hills are steeper and I always ride loaded?

Ask to ride the Aventura² 6.8 as well. It carries a stronger Bosch motor, and we'll take both out on the same hill so you can feel the difference.
