John says...
’The riders I talk to about this bike are not giving up riding. They want to keep the rides they have, with a body that has started to ask for a few changes. You step through the frame and put both feet down. The suspension takes the jolt out of rough surfaces, and Bosch ABS keeps the front wheel rolling when you brake hard. Come to Ivanhoe, let me size you, and ride it before you decide.‘

Who it suits
- Best for getting on and off with no leg swung over the frame: a deep step-through frame, plus a 125 mm dropper post that lowers the saddle at the lights.
- Best for rough everyday surfaces: a 130 mm air fork and a linkage rear shock over kerbs, cobbles and broken bitumen.
- Best for stopping hard on a wet road: Bosch eBike ABS on the front wheel.
- Best for the weekly shop and the short trips you would drive: a rear rack rated to 25 kg.
It is made for roads, bike paths and rough everyday surfaces. For demanding technical riding, ask us about a dedicated electric mountain bike.
The rides you love, kept
The Bosch Performance Line CX is a mid-drive motor on the Bosch Smart System, rated by Bosch at 250 W. With the 800 Wh PowerTube battery behind it, hills and longer rides take less out of you, so the long way home stays on the table and you arrive with something left in your legs.
Built around your body as it is now
You step through the frame with no top tube to swing a leg over, and you put both feet down at the lights. ebike-mtb.com's independent test of this model describes the access in its own words:
"from the very first swing through the deep step-through frame".
The TranzX 125 mm dropper post lowers the saddle at a stop so both feet go flat.
Full suspension takes the jolt out of kerbs, cobbles and broken bitumen. A 130 mm SR Suntour air fork works with a linkage rear shock, and the same test found a "smooth, comfortable ride" over cobblestones and high kerbs. At about 35 kg it rides planted, and the test called it "a very stable ride". The battery comes out from the top, so you can lift it out before the bike goes on a car rack.
The trips you would normally drive
In a QUT survey of Queensland e-bike owners, 58% said they would otherwise have driven to work and 75% would have driven to the shops. This bike comes ready for those trips. ebike-mtb.com's test called it "ideal for everyday riders looking to leave the car behind more often" and found it composed even when fully loaded with Ortlieb panniers.
- A MIK rear rack rated to 25 kg takes panniers and the weekly shop. It is made for luggage, so a child seat does not go on it.
- Extra-long aluminium mudguards with a splash guard keep the spray off you.
- A Supernova Mini 3 Pro front light with high beam and a Trelock rear light with brake light.
- A battery that comes out from the top, so you can charge it indoors.
The hill on the way home
A Shimano XT Linkglide 11-speed drivetrain gives the Bosch motor a wide spread of gears to work with. The ebike-mtb.com test found "plenty of gear range" even in hilly Stuttgart. Ride it up a hill you know when you book your test ride.
Ride together again
It comes in three frame sizes, S, M and L, so two riders of different heights can each sit right. Come to Ivanhoe together and we will size you both, then you can ride side by side before you decide. The motor closes the gap between your pace and theirs.
How far will it go?
These are Bosch Range Assistant estimates for the Performance Line CX with the PowerTube 800 Wh battery:
- Eco mode: about 179 to 181 km
- Tour mode: about 136 to 142 km
- Sport mode: about 120 to 122 km
- Turbo mode: about 112 to 113 km
Bosch calculates them for an athletic touring bike with derailleur gears, 100 kg total weight, an 18 km/h average, 60 rpm pedalling, a mixed tour with some inclines on mostly good asphalt, light breezes, summer and hybrid bike tyres. Bosch states they are estimates that vary with the type of use and external influences. Heavier loads, steep hills, cold weather and higher assist modes all shorten the distance. The 800 Wh battery is a large one, built for long days and touring.
Is ABS worth having?
Under a hard stop on a wet road, Bosch eBike ABS keeps the front wheel from locking, so you can use the strong front brake with confidence. It acts on the front wheel, backed by Magura MT C four-piston hydraulic brakes on 203 mm discs. The ebike-mtb.com test found it "engages reliably and reassuringly, offering a noticeable boost in safety", and that "even seasoned cyclists will benefit from the added confidence".

Questions people ask
Is the Entice 7.B ABS worth it?
It brings a Bosch Smart System drive and 800 Wh battery, Bosch ABS, full air suspension and a 10-year frame warranty (once the bike is registered with Kalkhoff) together on one step-through bike, serviced in our Ivanhoe workshop. Ride it against anything else on the floor.
Is it too heavy to handle or put on a car rack?
At about 35 kg it rides planted and stable on the road. The battery comes out from the top, so lift it out before the bike goes on a rack, and check your rack's rating. If the bike has to go up stairs every day, a lighter model in our range may suit you better, and we will show you both.
Who looks after it if something goes wrong?
We service every bike we sell in our own workshop in Ivanhoe, including the Bosch system. Your first service is included at 300 km, and Kalkhoff covers the frame for 10 years once you register the bike.
Can someone take the bike or the battery?
The ConnectModule links the bike to the Kalkhoff app, with an alarm and GPS tracking. Lock the bike as you would any valuable.
Is it legal to ride?
Bosch rates the motor at 250 W with assistance to 25 km/h, and it is pedal-assist only with no throttle. E-bike rules are set by each state, and your state transport authority publishes them.
Is the battery safe, and how do I look after it?
It is a genuine Bosch PowerTube battery with its Bosch charger, and you should charge it only with the Bosch charger supplied. Clean the bike with a soft damp cloth, never a hose or pressure cleaner. Take the battery out before cleaning, storing the bike or putting it on a car rack. At the end of its life, hand the battery to a specialist bicycle dealer and keep it out of household waste.
Can I carry a child on the rack?
The rack is rated to 25 kg and made for panniers and shopping, so a child seat does not go on this rack. For carrying children, ask us about a cargo bike.
How much weight is it rated for?
Kalkhoff rates it to 170 kg permissible total weight, counting bike, rider and luggage together, with a 120 kg maximum rider weight. Kalkhoff says it is one of very few makers with a full-suspension bike rated to 170 kg.
I have never heard of Kalkhoff. Who are they?
Kalkhoff was founded in Cloppenburg, Germany, in 1919 and built its first production e-bike in 2007. This bike runs Bosch's Smart System, and we service it here.
Will it fit me?
It comes in S, M and L. We size you in the showroom and you ride it before you decide. If you need an XL, we will point you to a model that comes in one.
Is it fun to ride, or just a comfort bike?
The testers found it a relaxed, intuitive ride. Book a test ride and try it on your own roads.
How does it compare with the Riese & Müller Homage5?
Both brands are on the floor at our Ivanhoe showroom. Ride the Entice 7.B ABS and the Homage5 on the same visit and see which one fits you.
