The Kalkhoff Entice 3.B BELT is a step-through e-bike for the short trips you'd otherwise drive. A Gates carbon belt turns a Shimano Nexus 5-speed hub, so there is no chain to oil and no grease on your trousers.
A Bosch Performance Line CX motor takes the hill, and the Wave frame means no bar to swing a leg over. Book a test ride at our Ivanhoe showroom and we'll size you to the frame.
John says...
’Great design, high capacity battery, so you can ride further between charges, and the latest in Bosch technology. A great electric bike to ride around Melbourne and the rail trails. Come in for a test ride and I'll get you sized to the frame so it fits you from the first ride.‘
Kalkhoff Entice 3.B BELT belt-drive e-bike
Think of the trips you make by car because the bike felt like a project: the shops, a café, an appointment, the way to work. You step on in what you're wearing, ride there and park at the door. In a Queensland University of Technology owner survey, 68 to 78% of owners rode for transport, and 58% said they would otherwise have driven to work. The motor does the work on the hills, so you arrive without the sweat.
You choose how much help you get. The Bosch Kiox 300 colour display switches between assist modes, and it has walk assist for pushing the bike up a ramp or out of the shed. Pick the help the day calls for, ride further, and you still come home with energy left.
100 Nm is the number to look at for hills. Australian owners judge a motor by its torque in Nm, not its watts, and one owner's rule of thumb on the Whirlpool forum is 40 Nm for a city bike and 60 Nm for a touring bike. This one gives you:
- Bosch Performance Line CX Smart System, 250 W rated, 100 Nm, 36 V, assist to 25 km/h
- What that does: the steep street on your usual route stops deciding which way you go home
- Bosch PowerTube 600 Wh (16.7 Ah) battery, integrated into the frame
It comes in two frames and four sizes, so two riders of different heights can ride the same bike side by side. The Wave step-through comes in S, M, L and XL, and the Diamond comes in M and L.
The Wave frame is the one to ask for if you've been putting off a bike because of the swing over the bar. You step through, put a foot flat at the lights, and get off the same way. It starts at a 43 cm small frame, and we size you in the showroom and set the saddle and bars for you.
Belt drive: no chain to oil
The belt is why this bike stays clean and quiet on the way to the shops. Here is what it is and what it does for you:
- Gates Carbondrive CDX belt, 46-tooth chainring to a 28-tooth sprocket, driving a Shimano Nexus 5-speed internal hub
- No chain to oil or wipe, and no chain to drop off
- You ride in the clothes you set out in
Kalkhoff's own headline for this bike is "Low-maintenance belt drive". Lovejoy and Handy's City Cycling (2012) notes that enclosing the moving parts reduces maintenance needs. A Kalkhoff Endeavour owner on Reddit, running a Gates belt with hub gears on a different model, reported that the original belt lasted seven years.
For a weekend on the rail trail and the coffee at the end of it, Kalkhoff's own words for this bike are "from the roads to the track". It rolls on 57 mm Schwalbe Smart Sam tyres with a 100 mm SR Suntour fork to take the bumps. For technical mountain-bike trails, ask us which e-mountain bike suits better.
How far will the Entice 3.B BELT go on one charge?
Bosch's own estimates for this motor and battery are about 131 km in Eco, 99 km in Tour, 87 km in Sport and 82 km in Turbo. They assume 100 kg total weight, an 18 km/h average, a mixed tour with some inclines, mostly good asphalt, light breezes, summer and hybrid tyres. Bosch states they vary with the type of use and external influences, so a heavier load, steeper hills, wind and a higher assist mode all change the figure.

After you buy, the workshop that sold the bike looks after it. Your first service is included at 300 km, the frame carries Kalkhoff's 10-year warranty once you register it, and the Bosch electrics carry our two-year warranty. We check every bike over before handover.

Questions people ask
How heavy is the Kalkhoff Entice 3.B BELT?
It weighs 28.49 to 28.88 kg with the battery, depending on frame and size, and the walk assist on the Kiox 300 helps when you're pushing it. If you'd be carrying a bike up stairs every day, ask the showroom which lighter bikes suit you.
Are five gears enough for hills, and what about a puncture?
The 100 Nm motor does the climbing work that a wider gear range does on a regular bike. Rear-wheel and belt work is done at service in our Heidelberg Road workshop.
How much can it carry?
The rear rack is rated to 27 kg, and the bike is rated to 150 kg all up. The bike's own 28.5 to 28.9 kg counts inside that, which leaves about 121 kg for you, your clothes and your luggage together. If your total is above that, ask us about a bike with a higher rating.
Is it legal to ride in Victoria?
Kalkhoff publishes the motor at 250 W rated with assist to 25 km/h. E-bike rules are set by each state, so check yours before you ride; Victoria Police publishes the rules for Victoria.
How do I charge the battery?
It's a Bosch PowerTube battery built into the frame. Charge it with a Bosch charger made for the PowerTube, and ask the showroom to point you to the right one.
Who is Kalkhoff?
Kalkhoff is a German maker founded in 1919. Its e-bikes come in three families, Image for the city, Endeavour for trekking and Entice for allroad riding, and this one runs on Bosch's Performance Line CX.
What if a chain bike suits me better?
Ask us about the Kalkhoff Entice 3.B Move and we'll put you on both for a test ride.
Book a test ride at the Ivanhoe showroom, open 7 days, and we'll size you to the frame.
